Help Us Build Preschools in 2013! Donate Now!
In addition to building schools, we will again be distributing shoes and clothing to children desperately in need of them.
We are also in great need of funds to ship the clothing over the Namibia and to transport them to the distribution areas–something we personally do to make sure the goods are reaching the hands of the children.
Please donate today! If you are interested in hosting a clothing drive, contact Austin ([email protected])
What we’re doing.
The World Health Organization estimated that the prevalence of child sex abuse in Windhoek is 21.3% – the highest of any of the 15 sites in their global study (Garcia-Moreno et al, 2005). In 2011, we found that in extremely poor areas, many mothers put their children into preschools because they are afraid to leave their children alone with their husband, boyfriend, or other caretaker for fear the child will be sexually abused. Many of these preschools were being held in the homes of the teachers running these schools, and in one instance, the teacher running a school in a densely populated impoverished area told us she rarely let the children outside to play for fear that they would be kidnapped and/or assaulted.
In order to provide these children with a safe haven in which to learn and play, and to help these teachers reclaim their homes, Footsteps For Africa will be building several preschools in the impoverished suburb of Goreangab in 2013. In addition, we will distribute clothing for close to 2,000 children and families. The total cost for this initiative will only be $10,000! This is a small price to pay to create a safe haven for many children as well as deliver to them badly needed clothing and shoes. Any surplus funds will also be used to provide them with chairs, books, drawing/writing supplies.

Special thanks to our largest sponsors: Neways International, KLAS Enterprises, and Matthew Chase and his Eagle Scout project.
Footsteps For Africa sorted and boxed up the shoes and shirts we collected into 52 individual boxes, totaling over 1,600 lbs. They were shipped to Walvis Bay, Namibia in June, 2011, where Footsteps For Africa retrieved them and transported them to the distributions sites. We worked with the Namibia Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, the Namibia Red Cross Society, and the Church Alliance For Orphans to distribute these goods to the individuals who needed them most. To learn more about why we focused on shoes and shirts, please see the About Footsteps tab!
